Support at the Detention Centre at Büren

Following the guidelines of the state of North Rhine West-phalia, the Detention Centre at Büren accommodates persons, who are about to be deported. Their stay in the centre varies according to their personal situation, some-times it lasts over a period of several months.

These persons are in need of special care as they are often desperate, aggressive, and even suicidal. Since the beginn-ing of 2003, we are therefore providing refugees with particular extensive services, in order to act in preventative manner:

• Psychological and social support in the most important foreign languages
• Establishing contacts to authorities, legal aid, and embassies or their families
• Solving conflicts concerning problems between refugees
• Information events concerning drugs misuse or Aids prevention
• Handicraft work and DIY opportunities using different materials
• A variety of games and sports opportunities
• PC courses with international standard, to improve professional opportunities in Germany or when they return to their home countries
• Linguistic and culturally coordinated leisure facilities such as film shows, discussion circles, music and dance events or relaxation techniques
• Organisation of religious celebrations and activities
